Jamestown, CA Main Street, Gateway to the Mother Lode
Additional Details:
| "Jimtown", as it is known locally, had its start when gold was discovered along Woods Creek in 1848. After the surface gold was gone, however, it was the quartz mines, rich in gold, that kept the town booming. Today, the old buildings, with their overhanging balconies, are a reminder of the past. "Railtown 1897" is located here, where the working round-house and steam engines of the Sierra Railroad may be seen. |
