| This cathedral stands upon the ground that was once the site of a Roman temple. The cathedral was built during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and is 426 feet long, by 164 feet wide, and has five naves running the whole length of the building. The principal facade, one of the most beautiful that has come down to us from the middle ages, is worthily crowned by two massive square towers. The organ is 45 feet high and 36 feet wide and has 3,484 pipes. The chapels contain a number of monuments and fine frescoes. |
