Queen and People: Elizabeth II, President Lübke, Bonn Germany
Additional Details:
| The state visit to West Germany, from 18-28 May, took in fifteen locations in ten days. Here The Queen is seen with President Lübke and his wife, in Bonn, the Federal Capital. The itinerary included visits to Berlin and Hanover, with the latter of which The Queen has dynastic connections resulting from the marriage of Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of James I, to King Frederick of Bohemia. The grandchild of this marriage, Georg Ludwig, Elector of Hanover came to England in 1714 to reign as George I. From then until the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837 (who did not succeed to the Kingdom of Hanover owing to the operation of the Salic Law) the two Kingdoms were ruled by the one monarch, King of England. |
