Additional Details:
General View of the Chancel, Choir and Musicians' Galleries. The scheme of decoration is similar to that of the Byzantine churches of Italy, with Renaissance additions. The mosaics are chiefly Venetian. The principal pillars and arches are alabaster with gilded marble capitals. The mosaic of the choir roof is in memory of King Edward VII, while that above the Chancel Arch was given by Queen Victoria in memory of those of the Foot Guards who have died for their country. The Crimean colours of the Grenadier, Coldstream and Scots Guards hang on either side of the chancel arch. The semi-dome is in memory of General Sir Philip Smith.
