An illustrated depiction of the legend of Karlovy Vary's founding. King Charles IV, while hunting a stag near Loket Castle around 1358, discovered hot mineral springs. According to the legend, he used the springs to heal his ailing leg. The settlement eventually received town rights and was named Karlovy Vary after its founder.
