| Goat Island was the site of the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station and factory until closed at the end of WW II. Abandoned for many years, it was cleared and developed through the efforts of the Newport Redevelopment Agency as a site for this luxury hotel after construction of a causeway connecting the island to downtown Newport. The Newport Bridge between Newport and Jamestown is in the background. |
