| On hearing the Alarm Bell on that fateful April morning in 1775 Major John Buttrick departed this, his home in Concord, Massachusetts, to join his fellow patriots to defend Concord against the approaching British. He led the Minutemen down the hill to Old North Bridge. The British opened fire and Cap't. Davis of Acton fell dead. Buttrick turned to his men and shouted, "Fire, fellow soldiers! For God's sake, fire!" They did. |
