Additional Details:
Erected in 1799, the first monument in the country to those who fought in the American Revolution, this imposing memorial bears the stirring inscription written by Rev. Jonas Clarke, the heroic person who sheltered John Hancock and Samuel Adams from the British. Within the railing lie the remains of those who died in the first battle of the American Revolution, April 19, 1775.
