The Cabbage Palm (Sabal Palmetto) grows in great numbers throughout Florida. It is a plant of infinit uses, being the source of the delicious Palmetto honey; fibre hats, brooms and brushes; thatching for the Seminole Indians' huts; piling for docks, etc. The young spadix, or heart, is a tasty substitute for cabbage. The palmetto is used extensively in landscaping.
