| Coit Tower was erected on Telegraph Hill in memory of Lillie Hitchcock from funds left by her to beautify San Francisco. From the top, it offers a commanding view of the Docks and the Bay, including Alcatraz Island, now a Federal prison, and the Far Marin Hills. Lillie Coit was a San Francisco pioneer who took an active interest in the city and was decorated with the Gold Star of the V. F. Dept. |
