Route 66 linked Chicago, Illinois with Los Angeles, California bringing generations of Americans out West in search of fame and fortune. Finally paved in 1937 the "Main Street of America" could not support the burden of the booming interstate travel. Route 66 was streamlined several times before eventually being replaced by I-40 through Arizona.
