| In 1851 the city council changed the name of place d'Armes to Jackson Square in honor of Gen. Andrew Jackson, the hero of the battle of New Orleans. The monument was unveiled in 1856. This is one of 3, the others being in Washington D. C. and Nashville, Tenn. The Pontalba Buildings are in the background. |
