Additional Details:
Hirsau, an ancient monastery in the Nagold Valley, boasts a 1200-year history. While the original St. Aurelius foundation (830-838) has no remains, the second foundation (1059-1071) preserves parts of the church. The well-preserved upper sections date from the St. Peter and Paul monastery, built by Abbot Wilhelm (1092-1091). The Renaissance castle and monastery complex were destroyed in 1692 by Melac, leaving picturesque ruins of the monastery church and towers.
