The Iron Curtain: A famous opening in the wall that splits West Germany from the Communist East, is viewed by President Reagan. His visit to the Berlin Wall evoked memories of President John Kennedy's visit, 19 years ago, when millions of besieged West Berliners cheered and wept as he drove through the streets and then delivered his challenging historical, "Ich bin ein Berliner!" speech. Reagan spoke at Charlottenburg Palace to 25,000 West Berliners who had obtained free tickets by writing weeks in advance. He stressed preventing nuclear war from startling accidentally and his proposals for the Soviet Union's scaling down of arms and strategic exercises.
