View of St. Michaelis Church (Hauptkirche St. Michaelis) in Hamburg, also known as 'Michel', with its distinctive clock tower and a blossoming tree in the foreground. The first church was built from 1649-1661 by Cornus and Marquard. The second church, built 1751-1762 by Prey and Sonnin, was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1750. The third church, built from 1906-1912 using old walls, was rebuilt after being burned down in 1906. It was severely damaged by bombs in 1945 and restored from 1945-1952 by Langmaack according to the Sonnin plans. It was elevated to a main church in 1978.
