Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Eastern Part from Faulturm after 1945 Bombing
Additional Details:
| View of the eastern part of Rothenburg ob der Tauber from the Faulturm, showing the destruction after a 20-minute incendiary bomb attack on Easter Saturday, March 31, 1945. Seventeen US Air Force planes, after a failed attack on a Wehrmacht oil depot, diverted their mission to the medieval town. The smoke cloud from the attack was visible 70 km away in Nuremberg. 45% of the half-timbered town was destroyed. By the early 1950s, the town was quickly rebuilt while maintaining its original appearance. Historic scene taken in the early summer of 1945. |
