| The Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, built in the 12th century, served as both a residential palace and a military fortress under Francis II (15th century). Embellishment works were continued by his daughter, Duchess Anne of Brittany. Henry IV signed the Edict of Nantes here in 1598. The castle hosted French kings in the 16th century, was transformed into barracks in the 17th century, and became property of the city of Nantes in 1915. |
