| Sidney Lanier, the South's most famous poet, was born in this cottage at 935 High Street, on February 3, 1842. The renowned poet, musician, linguist, and lawyer died September 7, 1881. A lover of his nature state, he wrote "The Song of the Chattahoochee" — a river in north Georgia, and "The Marshes of Glynn" — in Georgia's coastal region. This museum cottage is owned by the Middle Georgia Historical Society which has its offices here. It is open to the public. |
