Additional Details:
The Carro del Sabato Santo (Cart of Holy Saturday) is part of a religious rite in Florence involving the burning of sacred fire. The first cart was built in 1305 by Pazzino de' Pazzi to transport blessed fire. During the Pontificate of Leo X, the Colombina ceremony was adopted, leading to the construction of a Triumphal Cart. The current cart dates to around 1700 and is brought by oxen to the Cathedral each Holy Saturday.
