End of the Old Plank Road 1916-26

| Remnants of the single-track Old Plank Road on the Imperial Sand Hills between Yuma, AZ and El Centro, CA. This road, originally made of crossties, replaced an earlier plank road in 1916. A protected strip of the second wooden road can be found beside Frontage Road on the southwest side of I-8. A 12-foot section is on display at Yuma's Customs House and others at the Imperial County Fair Grounds, Imperial, CA. |
