Ancient Roman Theater of Orange, Vaucluse
Additional Details:
| This monument, built against the St-Eutrope hill, dates back according to some to the reign of Emperor Hadrian (around 120 AD), according to others to the Augustan period, a few years before the Christian era. Only a part of the seating tiers has been restored: they can accommodate 10,800 spectators instead of the 40,000 that the building could originally hold. The facade, 36.82 m high and 103.15 m wide, is prodigiously imposing. |
