| The Pont du Gard, built by the Romans at the beginning of the Christian era, is the major element of the aqueduct that brought water from Uzès to Nîmes over a 50 km course. This Roman antiquity masterpiece is the most beautiful work of its kind to have survived. The aqueduct, at its summit, measures 275 meters; the canal, carried by three superimposed rows of arches, dominates the level of the Gardon by 50 meters. |
