It took the Pioneer Company of American Missionaries 163 days to travel from Boston Harbor around Cape Horn to Kailua-Kona on the Brig Thaddeus. The present church is the third structure built in 1836, funded by Governor Kuakini and designed by the first pastor, the Rev. Asa Thurston. The architectural style is New England.
