| The USS ARIZONA, painted by John Charles Roach for display at the Shoreside Facility at the USS ARIZONA Memorial, is shown as she looked in the summer of 1941. The painting is 52 feet long and 16 feet high and was paid for by donations from an association of military veterans of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The ARIZONA, built at the New York Navy Yard and commissioned October 17, 1916, was 608 feet long and weighed 32,600 standard tons. She carried twelve 14-inch guns in four turrets as her main battery. Her normal complement was 1,358 men. A wall of the Memorial over the sunken hull bears the names of the 1,102 crewmen who were entombed there on December 7, 1941. |
