Jackson County and Brownstown, was organized the same year 1816. Jackson County, was named for Andrew Jackson, hero of the Battle of New Orleans. Brownstown, was named for Gen. Jacob Jennings Brown, popular hero of the War of 1812. Court House was built in 1873. There have been three previous Court Houses.
