This long stretch of macadam road is a link in the Southern trans-continental highway, dedicated to the illustrious Southern military chieftain, Robert E. Lee. In picture above Lee Highway approaches Thornton's Gap in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. This section of the highway was originally laid out in 1740 and for years was known as the New Market-Sperryville pike. |
