The expansion of Stage Coach routes to New Hampshire recorded as early as 1793, led to the building of the Inn at Fitzwilliam in 1796. The Fitzwilliam Inn, built beside the old New England Common, was the second of five eventually established at the height of the granite quarrying operations to give sustenance to travelers, as it still does today.
