SOLVANG, CALIFORNIA. In the early years of this
century a band of resolute Danish-Americans
came to California to establish a western Danish
College. They chose the rolling, oak-studded
Santa Ynez Valley. Solvang, which means Sunny
Valley, is a re-creation of a typical Danish Vil-
lage. An occasional Danish windmill accentuates
the thatched roofs and the bindingwärk of the
shops, restaurants and bakeries.
