Coit Tower, on Telegraph Hill, was named for one of the early San Francisco pioneers, Lillie Hitchcock Coit. She took great interest in the activities of the Volunteer Fire Department of that day. This beautiful monument has been erected to her memory from funds she left to beautify the city.
