| Building No. 17 where Lieutenant Robert E. Lee, future Confederate general, lived while stationed at Fort Monroe from 1831-1834. As Lieutenant of Engineers, he had almost complete charge of construction and put the finishing touches on the fort. Lee's first child was born here in 1832. |
