Scene from the Williamsburg National Wax Museum depicting Thomas Jefferson and George Wythe. Thomas Jefferson served five years of apprentice study under George Wythe. In 1767, George Wythe led Thomas Jefferson before the General Court of Virginia where, after due examination, Thomas Jefferson was admitted to the bar. George Wythe was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Attorney General of Virginia, Mayor of Williamsburg in 1768, and clerk of the House of Burgesses from 1769-1775.
