In 1767, George Wythe led Thomas Jefferson before the General Court of Virginia where, after due examination, Thomas Jefferson was admitted to the bar. George Wythe was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Attorney General of Virginia, Mayor of Williamsburg in 1768, and clerk of the House of Burgesses from 1769-1775. |
