U.S.S. RICHARD B. ANDERSON (DD-786)
The first ship to bear this name honors PFC
Richard Beatty Anderson, U.S.M.C., Congressional
Medal of Honor winner. Built in Seattle, Wash. by
Todd Pacific Shipyard. Commissioned 26 October
1945. ANDERSON participated in the 1948 series
of nuclear tests and the Korean Conflict. Remod-
ernized under the Navy's FRAM MK 1 Program,
she now boasts a helicopter deck and anti-sub-
marine rocket (ASROC).
