U. S. S. JAMES E. KYES (DD-787)
An anti-submarine destroyer of the Gearing
Class honoring Commander James Elsworth
Kyes, USN, who was posthumously awarded
the Navy Cross after being reported missing
in action while commanding the destroyer
Leary which was sunk in the North Atlantic
during World War II. The USS James E. Kyes
(DD-787) was built by Todd Pacific Shipyards
of Seattle, Wash. and commissioned on 8
February, 1946.
