Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument
Additional Details:
| For 12,000 years, the ancient inhabitants of North America were drawn to an area north of Amarillo, where they could gouge the prized Alibates flint from the earth to chip it into tools and weapons. Even today, the pock-marked hills where the flint was mined attract visitors. Preserved as the Alibates Flints Quarries National Monument, the site provides modern man a chance to examine the traces of one of the first industries in the New World. |
