| In 1883 the first Naval Training Station was established here and a year later Admiral Stephen B. Luce founded the Naval War College, the Navy's highest institution of learning. The aircraft carriers Saratoga and Forrestal, are retired at the navy piers at Coddington Cove (background). Their future is uncertain at this time. |
