Additional Details:
Pear trees and tulips ornament the main street of this historic town. It was from here in 1774 that the British Crown Judges were driven off in what is believed to be their last attempt to hold court in America. It was here that Mum Bett won her freedom from slavery in one of the first successful cases tried under 'due process of Law' (1781). W.E.B. DuBois, Laura Secord and Anson Jones were born here. In 1886 it was the first town in the world to be lighted by alternating current.
