| The Gibson Hotel, formerly The Franklin, was built in 1907 by James Fulton "Jeff" Buck of South Carolina. The lumber used in the hotel was Cypress and Heart Pine handpicked by Mr. Buck. In 1923, The Franklin was bought by the Gibson sisters, Annie Gibson Hayes and Mary Ellen "Sunshine" Gibson and the name changed to the Gibson. In 1942, the U.S. Army took possession of the hotel and used it as an Officer's Club and Billets for Camp Gordin Johnson. The hotel was purchased by its present owners in 1983 and restored to its present grandeur opening in October 1985. |
