Heroic Elizaveta Chaikina is a true daugh-
ter of the Russian people. After participating
in many of the military operations of her
guerilla unit, she was captured by the Ger-
mans, tortured and finally hanged in Novem-
ber 1941 in her native village, whither she
had come in order to pass on the contents
of Stalin's speech to the local collective farm-
ers. No amount of torture could force her to
betray her comrades. The Soviet Government
has posthumously conferred upon her the
title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
