COLUMBIA, S. C. OLYMPIA AND GRANBY
COTTON MILLS. The Olympia Mill, the largest cotton
mill under one roof in the world, occupies ten acres of
floor space all under one roof, operates 104,000 spindles
and 2400 looms; the cost of the plant being 21/2 millions
dollars. The Granby Mill has about 60,000 spindles in
operation. Other mills situated in what is known as the
mill village, which has a population of 5000, are the Pal-
metto, Richland, and Capital City, while the mills of the
Duck corporation and the American Press Cloth Co., are
situated just outside of it.
The church seen in the foreground is Trinity (Episco-
pal) Chapel.
