Nearly 70 million years ago, a horn-faced,
plant-eating dinosaur laid eggs similar to these
replicas now on display at the Prehistoric
Gardens on the Oregon Coast Highway 101.
Fossil dinosaur eggs were first discovered by the
Roy Chapman Andrews expedition to the Gobi
Desert in 1923.

SEYMOURIA
Seymouria lived during lower Permian times, 230
million years ago. He is regarded as the "grand-
father reptile", one of the "missing links" be-
tween the primitive amphibians and the reptiles.
These life-size replicas are displayed in Oregon's
rain forest at the Prehistoric Gardens on the
Oregon Coast Highway 101.

DIMETRODON
One of the Pelycosaurs, Dimetrodon was one of
the primitive reptiles that lived during the
upper Permian times, 200 million years ago.
Although he was only 11 feet long, he was the
largest land-living meat eater of his time. His
life-size replica is on display at the Prehistoric
Gardens on the Oregon Coast Highway 101.

The Trachadon was one of the many duck-billed
dinosaurs that lived near the water during the late
Cretaceous period, 70 million years ago. This
replica is at the Prehistoric Gardens, Oregon
Coast Highway 101.

BRACHIOSAURUS
Brachiosaurus, which means "Arm lizard", was
the largest dinosaur of all time; 86 feet long,
his head was 46 feet from the ground and his
estimated weight was over 85 tons. A harmless
plant-eater, he lived during the Jurassie period,
100 million years ago. His life-sized replica
may be seen at the Prehistoric Gardens on the
Oregon Coast Highway 101.

ICHTHYOSAUR
A fish-like reptile that lived during the Jurassic
period, 125 million years ago. It was perfectly
streamlined like the modern porpoise, and al-
though it was an air breathing reptile, it was
helpless as a fish if stranded on shore. Dis-
played at the Prehistoric Gardens on the
Oregon Coast Highway near Port Orford.

Icated between Port Orford and Gold Beach on the
scenic Oregon Coast, Prehistoric Gardens attracts
thousands of visitors annually to view the con-
crete restorations of many extinct animals that
roamed the earth centuries ago. The setting in
a "Rain Forest" among dense woods is particu-
larly impressive.

ERYOPS
Eryops, which means "drawn out eye", was an
ancient relative of the modern frogs and sala-
manders. He lived during the lower Permian
period, 225 million years ago. Eryops was a
meat-eating labyrinthodont amphibian, and
although he was only 7 feet long, he was the
largest animal of his time. His replica is dis-
played in his natural setting at the Prehistoric
Gardens on the Oregon Coast Highway 101.

STEGOSAURUS
Stegosaurus, which means literally "roofed
lizard", was one of the armored plant-
eating dinosaurs that lived during the upper
Jurassic times, 120 million years ago. He
was 26 feet long, weighed from 8 to 10 tons,
and had a brain the size of a walnut. His
life-size replica is displayed in a natural
setting of ferns and other primitive plants
at the Prehistoric Gardens on the Oregon
Coast Highway 101.

STRUTHIOMIMUS
One of the bird-like Dinosaurs that lived
during the middle Cretaceous period, 100 mil-
lion years ago. He had a toothless beak, hand-
like front feet and powerful hind legs and
tail. His name means literally "ostrich mimic."
These replicas may be seen at the Prehistoric
Gardens on the Oregon Coast Highway 101.

ELASMOSAURUS
One of the Plesiosaurs, large marine reptiles
that lived during the late Cretaceous period,
70 million years ago. 50 feet long, weighing
8 to 10 tons, it had a huge turtle-like body
and a long snake-like neck and head. They
spent their lives in the water, coming out on
land to bask in the sun or lay their eggs, just
as the modern sea turtle does today. This life
size replica may be seen at the Prehistoric
Gardens on the Southern Oregon Coast on
Highway 101.
