PASO ROBLES, Calif., was named by the Spanish for the
great number of spreading oaks found in the valley.
Today its almond trees are more famous than the oaks.
Long before the day of the white man the spot was known
for its hot springs. It is told by old timers of a grizzly
bear who made regular trips to cure a lame leg by bathing
in the hot water. Paso Robles is located on highway 101
halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. . . M.P.
