1 COVERED BRIDGE Built in 1876, the year of
Custer's Massacre, without nails or bolts...only
hardwood pins. The roof protects the lattice-truss
frame. Preserved by Ozaukee County in a park one
mile north of Hwy. 60 on Covered Bridge Rd.
2 OCTAGON BARN Unique in the midwest, only a few
remain, mostly along County Trunks C (Pioneer Rd.)
and W (Port Washington Rd.). Built in the late 1800's
by the Clausing brothers. They have no internal sup-
ports, were economical and wind resistant.

3 LIME KILNS The area's first were built in 1846. Now
restored, these, built in the 1890's, are in the park just
east of the intersection of Green Bay Rd. and Hwy. 57,
south of Grafton. Limestone was hauled up by mule
and converted by burning cordwood.
4 CEDARBURG MILL The city's founders, Frederick
Hilgen and William Schroeder, built this neo-Greek
landmark from local limestone in 1855. Families
sought refuge in it during the Great Indian Scare of
1862. Our building was the mill's flour and feed store.

ON HIGHWAY 57'IN THE HEART OF TOWN
Frederick Hilgen started Hilgen Spring Park in 1852. It was famous for
its beauty, water, tavern, three hotels and dining rooms. His son,
James, and nephew, Walter Barth, managed it later. In 1941 Barth
closed it and moved to the present building. His son-in-law and
daughter, Palmer and Arleen Krueger, with the help of their children,
insure your dining and drinking pleasure today.
