Child nature is much the same the
world over. The Indian children have
their toys of crudely carved wood, their
dolls of baked clay and bright trinkets of
beads and buckskin. They also have
their odd games, their joys and sorrows,
and play, laugh and alas, cry just as other
children do. This little Santa Clara
Indian girl had been given a stick of candy
by the artist who took the picture and it
accidentally slipped from her fingers only
to be snatched up by one of the many
village dogs. Tears were the natural
result,
