The Detroit News has three batteries of black-
and-white presses, the largest being nearly 200
.feet long. Their capacity is 360,000 complete
48-page papers, printed, cut, folded, counted and
delivered to the mailing department every hour.
They consume yearly 55,000 tons of paper of a
standard width of 70 inches, fed to them in a
continuous ribbon from rolls in the basement.
used in the printing amounts to more
1,750,000 pounds a year.
