Navajo Sand Paintings are considered "Greatest of all Indian Arts". They are designed with grains of colored sand. A Navajo, before becoming a qualified medicine man, must be able to make from memory, twenty or more sand paintings, rigidly adhering to the accepted laws of designs of their sacred Rituals. The paintings are destroyed with ceremony as soon as they have served their purpose.
