Additional Details:
The Tower, paid for by public donations, was built on the harbor front to honor area seamen lost at Sea. Dedicated on May 9, 1970, the Tower is nearly 100 feet high . . . Including a 22-foot white cross, illuminated at night and visible for more than 10 miles at Sea. A feature of the structure is a 12-foot hand hewn statue of Christ sculptured from a piece of mahogany driftwood which came ashore on the beach of Port Aransas. The sculptor Raymond Veasey of Corpus Christi is a former Navy and merchant marine sailor. Inside the tiny chapel in the base of the Tower are plaques listing the lost seamen and those whose donations made the memorial possible.
