The model was presented to then President Harry S. Truman on the occasion of the laying of the keep plate at Groton on June 14, 1952. While specific information is an official secret, it is believed that the Nautilus will far surpass conventional submarines both in speed and range. Description:
This gun was taken from the wreck of Admiral Cervera's flagship, "Marie Theresa," which fired the first shot on July 3, 1898, as it steamed out of Santiago harbor. It is now stationed at Groton Heights, Conn. It is now in the custody of the Anna Warner Bailey Chapter, D.A.R., of Groton and Stonington. It was unveiled by Hobson, June 17th, 1902

The world's second nuclear-powered submarine is shown sliding into the Thames River from her building ways at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corp., Groton, Conn. The Seawolf, similar in many respects to the world's first atomic submarine, USS Nautilus, was launched July 21, 1955. These and many other submarines of our Navy may be seen operating in the Thames River from the adjoining "twin cities" of New London and Groton
