Additional Details:
The Great Salt Lake is the largest in the World; located 16 miles West of Salt Lake City, on Hi-Way 40 - and is like the Dead Sea of Palestine, both fed by the Jordan River. It covers approximately 2,140 square miles, 50 miles wide and 75 miles long - is noted for its invigorating bathing qualities and sandy beaches. You CANNOT SINK and it never freezes. The water is 27% Mineral. Thousands of tons of Salt are extracted annualy for commercial use, by evaporation. This Lake has no known outlet except evaporation. SUGGESTION - Take some home - Place in open pan, let evaporate - YOU'LL BE SURPRISED! There are 9 Islands in the Lake, one called 'Bird island' has neither fresh water nor food thereon. It is literally covered with nests, eggs and young as thousands of Pelicans, Heron and Sea Gulls converge there during the nesting season. The only living insect known to exist in this Lake is the Salt Shrimp, which in certain places, in the water along the beaches, multiply so rapidly they and their eggs are gathered commercially. The Shrimp are quick frozen, shipped all over the World to Aquarium Owners for Fish Food
