"Bosom'd in woods where mighty rivers run, Kelso's Fair vale expands before the sun." Sir Walter Scott spent a great deal of his boyhood at Kelso, and was very found of the town and neighbourhood. The Abbey was founded in 1130 by David I., and, after many vicissitudes, was destroyed by the English in 1545. The bridge, built by Rennie, crosses the River Tweed between the railway station and the town.
