Additional Details:
Facing the Place d'Armes, or Jackson Square, in the heart of the New Orleans French Quarter is eh triple-spired stately St. Louis Cathedral. The structure, completed in 1794, was erected by don Andres Almonester Y Roxas. The church witnessed the ceremony of the exchange of flags, December 1, 1803, when the royal red and yellow emblem of Spain fluttered down from the high flagstaff in Jackson Square and saw the tricolor of Napoleon's France take its place for twenty short days, only to be succeeded by the banner of 15 stars and 15 stripes of the United States. New Orleans - America's most interesting city.
